New York spot gold dipped $48.70 to $4,690.20 on Thursday, continuing in its flattish funk -- if selling for double what it did a few years ago can be considered a funk. The TSX Venture Exchange is definitely in a funk -- it fell 30.63 points to 1,020 today, while the TSX gold index shed 16.08 points to 899.50. Most precious metals miners were in retreat again today. Lundin Gold Corp. (LUG) dropped $3.71 to $102.35 on 629,000 shares, while Silver X Mining Corp. (AGX), up yesterday, dropped five cents to 79 cents on 2.11 million shares today. Atico Mining Corp. (ATY), on the other hand, added 2.5 cents to 33 cents on 139,000 shares.
Ian Cockerill's Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV) lost $1.33 to $84.69 on 1.08 million shares. The company rolled out a definitive feasibility study for its Assafou project, on the Tanda-Iguela property in Ivory Coast. The study is based on a reserve of 77.4 million tonnes grading 1.76 grams of gold per tonne, a total of 4.38 million ounces of gold. (The full resource is only marginally larger, even with inferred rock, as it tallies to barely five million ounces, so there were only modest increases in the plan from the earlier study.)
