New York spot gold slipped $19.40 to $4,746.10 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 3.17 points to 992.22 while the TSX gold index added 15.45 points to 978.46. Most Canadian gold miners gained altitude today. Barrick Mining Corp. (ABX) rose $1.54 to $60.27 on 6.86 million shares while Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV) added $3.07 to $90.30 on 819,000 shares. Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG), on the other hand, fell 32 cents to $40.18 on 416,000 shares.
Rudi Fronk's Seabridge Gold Inc. (SEA) hit a speed bump on its road to building a mammoth mine at its KSM project in northwestern British Columbia. This is not a crushing defeat -- its stock lost just $1.70 to $43.12 on 189,000 shares today after all -- but it does add a layer of complexity to the wheeling, dealing and lawyering regarding the company's plan to dig twin tunnels across the rival Treaty Creek property, where Joe Ovsenek's Tudor Gold Corp. (TUD) has a large deposit, Goldstorm, sitting in the path of Seabridge's proposed Mitchell Treaty tunnels (MTT).
