New York spot gold -- it has been up, down and all around of late -- ended the week up $115.80 to $4,493 as it continues to zip about like a Patriot missile seeking to lock in on an Iranian drone. Indeed, the analogy has been too real of late: The fortunes of war pushed bullion as high as $5,600 in late January and as low as $4,200 just four days ago. And so, the TSX Venture Exchange rose 4.45 points to 915 and the TSX gold index jumped 30 points to 846.09 today.

Starcore International Mines Ltd. (SAM) had a rousing day, adding six cents to 71 cents on 1.23 million shares in silence. Also mum and northbound was K92 Mining Inc. (KNT). It added 94 cents to $22.25 on 1.8 million shares. Dynacor Group Inc. (DNG), on the other hand, lost 10 cents to $5.63 on 189,000 shares today.

Peter Kukielski's Hudbay Minerals Inc. (HBM) rose 96 cents to $27.01 on 5.07 million shares after it updated its reserve and resource estimates providing "mine life extensions and [an] improved three-year production outlook." The company expects to produce between 110,000 and 138,000 tonnes of copper this year, along with between 217,000 and 272,000 ounces of gold and between 2.9 million and 3.69 million ounces of silver.
