The early bird gets the worm, it is said, but there are advantages to being a late riser. Early-rising gold bugs were horrified to see bullion slump to $4,099 in the wee hours of Monday, while those souls who tuned in at more civilized hours saw gold regain much of the lost ground. And so, gyrations aside, New York spot gold took its afternoon pause at $4,410.30, down just $79.90 on the day. Of course, it is a far cry from the $5,602 of late February, and the markets have responded accordingly over the past few weeks.

But not today: The TSX Venture Exchange reclaimed 18.78 points to 930.31, while the TSX gold index rebounded 25.56 points to 808.28. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) was strong, as it added 79 cents to $18.10 on 2.93 million shares, while Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) added $1.89 to $42.49 on 2.15 million shares. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) also did well, jumping 70 cents to $8.08 on 4.71 million shares. The Americas gain comes despite word that Toronto-based financier, Eric Sprott, sold five million shares at just under $7.32 on Friday. Of course, he still owns 40 million shares.
