New York spot gold fell 20 cents Tuesday, taking an afternoon break at $5,005. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 1.11 points to 1,011.06 while the TSX gold index dipped 3.01 points to 916.99. Most Canadian gold miners lost ground today. Oh, Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) did add 26 cents to $25.25 on 2.05 million shares, but Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) fell 55 cents to $13.33 on 880,000 shares and Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) lost $2.57 to $45.56 on 1.65 million shares.
Keith Boyle and Eric Sprott's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) -- $13.50 in 2021, when it was an exploration apple in the eye of the market, and nearly a $5 stock in January thanks to gold's bull run -- fell another 12 cents to $2.92 on 1.54 million shares today. The company has filed its technical report for a preliminary economic assessment of its Hammerdown project in northwestern Newfoundland, which it acquired last year through its $292-million takeover of Maritime Resources Corp.
