New York spot gold fell $101.90 Thursday, pausing for afternoon air at $5,073.30. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 29.11 points to 1,047.05 while the TSX gold index fell 14.22 points to 959.62. Most Canadian gold miners lost ground today, although Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO) bucked the trend by adding 92 cents to $24.89 on 2.24 million shares on word it had a good 2025. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) lost 53 cents to $10.96 on 2.08 million shares while Orezone Gold Corp. (ORE) fell 11 cents to $2.25 on 3.22 million shares.

Rio Silver Inc. (RYO), $1.58 a week ago, fell another 37 cents to 62 cents on 4.88 million shares today. Yesterday, the company said it was offering 8.57 million shares at -- huh? -- 35 cents apiece, seeking $3-million to work its Maria Norte project in Peru. Rio, which last traded near 35 cents in November, cheered today that it has permission from the locals to begin work at the project.
