New York spot gold rose $94.30 Friday to end the week at $5,278.20. The TSX Venture Exchange added 0.91 point to 1,107.60, while the TSX gold index rose 13.02 points to 1,102.84. The two indices have been doing the Howe Street tango for several days now, to the point that newcomers might think they are intimately entwined. Not so: Harken back to before the Great Recession when the TSX-V topped 3,700 points. At that time, the gold index hovered at about 300 points.

Silver X Mining Corp. (AGX) helped lead today's advance, as it added five cents to $1.22 on 3.22 million shares in silence. Another Gary Cooper wannabe, Robex Resources Inc. (RBX), joined the ranks of the strong silent types by adding 24 cents to $7.84 on 296,000 shares. B2Gold Corp. (BTO) moved lower today, dropping nine cents to $8.38 on 12.49 million shares. Most of the southbound golds had modest retreats, unless prodded by news.
