New York spot gold regained $21.60 Wednesday, pausing at $5,164.10. The TSX Venture Exchange added 21.62 points to 1,086.92 while the TSX gold index dipped 0.33 point to 1,064.43. Starcore International Mines Ltd. (SAM) was buoyant, as it added 10 cents to $1.14 on 1.26 million shares on the quiet. Orvana Minerals Corp. (ORV) also did well, adding 13 cents to $2 on 696,000 shares. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO) was among those southbound today, as it dipped 64 cents to $25.98 on 1.11 million shares.
Shareholders of long-gone Pure Gold Mining Inc. must be bemoaning their bankrupted company's headlong rush to production at the Madsen mine, near Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario. Not only has its successor, Shane Williams's West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG), successfully delineated a minable resource -- one sitting where it is supposed to be -- but the company is still scoring bonanza-grade hits with its exploration program.
