New York spot gold gained $110.30 Friday, ending the week at $5,031.10. The TSX Venture Exchange reclaimed 8.78 points to 991.99 while the TSX gold index surged 55.52 points to 991.79. Canadian-listed gold miners sailed in a sea of green today, with just a few red shoals jutting out of the otherwise pleasant waters. One was West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG), which fell three cents to $1.20 on 3.73 million shares. Another was New Found Gold Corp. (NFG), which was down much of the day but closed unchanged at $3.68 on 1.77 million shares. On the other hand, Galiano Gold Corp. (GAU), which took a hit yesterday, rebounded 43 cents to $4.10 on 2.08 million shares today.

Yarr, there be geophysicists here: Timothy Froude and Denis Laviolette's Pirate Gold Corp. (YARR) rose 3.5 cents to 36.5 cents on 3.22 million shares on word that it has begun two simultaneous project-scale geophysical surveys over its Treasure Island North and Treasure Island South projects in central Newfoundland. The two projects cover about 90 kilometres of strike along the Valentine Lake fault zone, home to the Valentine gold mine now run by Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX). Meanwhile, Pirate's 50,000-metre drill program is proceeding, with two drills currently operating at Treasure Island North and a third set to join them within two weeks.
