New York spot gold rose $63.60 Monday, taking a break at $5,026.80. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 22.17 points to 1,037.51, while the TSX gold index added 45.05 points to 968.31. Most Canadian golds gained altitude today, some with vigour. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) jumped $1.12 to $10.86 on 3.52 million shares while Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) rose $4.55 to $80.01 on 1.71 million shares. Orosur Mining Inc. (OMI) went the other way, dipping three cents to 58 cents on 493,000 shares.
Greg Lang's Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) jumped $1 to $13.56 on 1.16 million shares on word it and its co-venturer, Paulson Advisers LLC, have hired Fluor Corp. to lead their feasibility study of the massive Donlin gold project in southwestern Alaska. Mr. Lang, Novagold's president and chief executive officer, was suitably pleased, as the move "marks an important step in advancing the Donlin gold project."
