New York spot gold carried on with its big but erratic swings today, eventually pausing for air at $4,674.30, down $215.10 Monday. Bullion soared to $5,600 an ounce just three days earlier, but by early this morning it had dipped to $4,400 an ounce. The TSX Venture Exchange, not long off -- but quite a distance from -- Wednesday's 13-year high of 1,172, dropped 20.41 points to 1,030.67 today. The TSX gold index, 1,067 a week ago but just 883 early today, recovered 6.86 points to 899.86 by the close.
Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA), a $14 stock a week ago, dropped another 51 cents today, ending Monday in silence at $9.58 on 4.85 million shares. Serabi Gold PLC (SBI) took a harder fall on a longer silence, as it shed 74 cents to $5.03 on 332,000 shares. A Serabi share cost as much as $6.77 barely a week ago. Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG), on the other hand, added $2.50 to $104.58 on 1.58 million shares.
