Many investors still have something akin to their natural hair colour, yet recall laughing at the gold bug ads touting: "Gold to hit $1,000 an ounce!" Of course, those that heeded the cheering with gusto can grow grey with glee today: New York spot gold tacked on another $91.70 to reach $4,762.40. (Seriously: Twenty-five years ago, who would have thought that the main European powers would be contemplating a response to possible military action by the United States to annex Greenland.)
And so, bullion rolls northward. The TSX Venture Exchange, which must be looking over its shoulder at the hard-charging TSX gold index, added 7.21 points to 1,093.33. The gold index, meanwhile, added another 31.59 points to 987.64. Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) jumped $2.45 to $80.99 on 2.12 million shares, while Iamgold Corp. (IMG) added $1.14 to $27.42 on 7.05 million shares. Avino Silver & Gold Mines Ltd. (ASM), on the other hand, fell 41 cents to $9.71 on 1.93 million shares.
