New York spot gold -- well, remember barely a year ago when bullion shed $225 to $2,500 in the first few days after former president Donald Trump became president-elect Trump? -- well, those days are gone. Bullion jumped another $74.70 to $4,670.70 on Monday as the president of peace casts his eyes toward Greenland, having properly subdued Venezuela. For now, fortunately, tariffs remain his go-to weaponry in a growing rift with his NATO allies, but tariffs and bullion do appear to move in tandem.

The TSX Venture Exchange dropped 5.01 points to 1,086.12 while the TSX gold index leapt 15.58 points to 956.05. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today, some with enthusiasm. Orosur Mining Inc. (OMI) was one, as it leapt 10 cents to 64 cents on 1.44 million shares. Starcore International Mines Ltd. (SAM) also did well, adding 16 cents to $1.28 on 657,000 shares. And so, perhaps avert your gaze should you see a shareholder of Meridian Mining PLC (MNO), as its stock fell seven cents to $1.48 on 649,000 shares.
