New York spot gold took it easier today, ebbing $12.40 to $4,585.30. The TSX Venture Exchange nevertheless added 6.68 points to 1,098.05 while the TSX gold index rose another 11.73 points to 936.93. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) continued its northbound drive, adding $6.55 to $276.33 on 1.61 million shares. (Remember when it was a $24 stock? It was only 10 years ago.) On the other hand, New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) stumbled 27 cents lower, closing at $4.13 on 2.01 million shares. (Remember when it was a $13 stock? That was only five years ago.)

Shane Williams's West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) had another good day, adding 5.5 cents to $1.17 on 5.81 million shares. Yesterday, the company cheered that it had reached commercial production at its Madsen mine, near Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario, at the start of the year. Today, the company revealed that it had sold 7,379 ounces in the last quarter of 2025, raking in $30-million (U.S.) in revenue. Yes, the grade -- five grams per tonne -- was below the reserve estimate, but West Red says its miners are moving into a higher-grade zone as formal production begins.
