New York spot rose $5.10 Friday, ending the week at $4,336.80. The TSX Venture Exchange leapt 35.90 points to 977.98 while the TSX gold index added 21.10 points to 836.59. Most Canadian gold miners gained altitude today. Some did so with enthusiasm: Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) added $2.24 to $71.13 on 3.26 million shares in silence, while equally mum Taseko Mines Ltd. (TKO) added 45 cents to $7.55 on 13.28 million shares. A few retreated today without benefit of news: Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) fell $1.16 to $113.69 on 2.47 million shares.
Daniel Noone's G2 Goldfields Inc. (GTWO) rose 28 cents to $5.30 on 1.65 million shares. The company has an updated resource estimate and a maiden preliminary economic assessment for its Oko gold project in Guyana. Oko is now credited with 15.57 million tonnes indicated at 3.24 grams of gold per tonne and 17.97 million tonnes inferred at 3.31 grams per tonne, a total of 3.53 million ounces of gold.
