New York spot gold rose $50.90 to $4,278.40 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 11.77 points to 957.64 while the TSX gold index rose 28.81 points to 819.65. Most Canadian gold miners gained ground today. New Gold Inc. (NGD) added 98 cents to $11.76 on 5.26 million shares without help from news, and equally silent Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) added 91 cents to $20.33 on 4.12 million shares. Chugging along on the nearly deserted southbound train today was Meridian Mining PLC. (MNO), which dipped six cents to $1.57 on 871,000 shares.
Anthony Moreau's American Eagle Gold Corp. (AE) rose three cents to 50 cents on 488,000 shares on new assays from five new holes drilled in the South zone of its NAK copper and gold porphyry project, in the Babine district of central British Columbia. The headline hole yielded 0.18 gram of gold and 1.2 grams of silver per tonne, plus 0.2 per cent copper and 85 parts per million molybdenum, across a 909-metre interval based near surface.
