New York spot gold jumped $62.60 Friday, ending the day at $4,218.40 on Black Friday -- the shopping one, certainly not a market one. The TSX Venture Exchange gained ground as did its bigger brothers, adding 15.26 points to 937.34 while the TSX gold index rose 8.30 points to 798.98. Several Canadian gold miners managed strong gains today. Starcore International Mines Ltd. (SAM) added 10 cents to 72 cents on 1.29 million shares, while Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) rose $3.98 to $63.34 on 2.19 million shares.

(GGD) jumped 19 cents to $2.61 on 7.2 million shares, aided by word late Thursday that it had sold 54.25 million shares at $2.65 in a bought-deal offering that raised $144-million. (The cash includes $18.75-million for just over seven million shares that the underwriters purchased through their greenshoe option, which may have added to the market enthusiasm.) The cash, the company cheers, is for exploration and development at its Los Ricos project in Mexico.
