New York spot gold crossed the $4,000 mark a few times again today -- bullion has been treating it like a floor mat at the entrance to a shopping mall of late -- as it ended the day up $1.20 by the afternoon break to end the session at $3,979.40. The TSX Venture Exchange shed 25 points to end the day at 875.89 while the TSX gold index rose 0.21 point to 688.50. Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX) led the northbound drive, adding $1.16 to $16.10 on 9.81 million shares as it applauded "record third quarter production and revenue."
Investors were nowhere nearly as pleased with the third quarter results from B2Gold Corp. (BTO), as it slid 34 cents to $5.36 on 25.87 million shares. Most of B2Gold's mines performed as expected, but the company lowered its annual production guidance for Goose to between 50,000 and 80,000 ounces, peeling off 30,000 ounces from its earlier projection. Goose experienced crushing plant issues, and delays in accessing higher-grade underground ore at Umwelt also helped cook B2Gold's forecasting goose.
