New York spot gold leapt $71.10 today, ending the week at $3,359.60, thanks to President Trump striking another high-grade vein of tariffs. With the major North American markets taking a hit, junior tagged along, with the TSX Venture Exchange shedding 9.39 points to 761.49. The gold index, on the other hand, tacked on 5.81 points to 511.81. Dundee Precious Metals Inc. (DPM) led the way, adding $1.58 to $23.98 on 1.83 million shares on word it had a second quarter worthy of sustaining its four-U.S-cent quarterly dividend.
There were some unhappy faces among goldbugs today if their precious metals plays had a hefty copper component. First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM) lost $1.11 to $22.18 on 3.77 million shares -- thank you Captain Chaos for those tariffs -- but another, Capstone Copper Corp. (CS), bucked the trend by jumping 40 cents to $8.17 on 9.11 million shares. Capstone, mind you, just revealed its second quarter results, which provided plenty to cheer.
