New York spot gold fell $43.10 on Wednesday, ending the day at $3,387.30. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 1.90 points to 804.48 while the TSX gold index fell 5.72 points to 515.02. Taseko Mines Ltd. (TKO) added one cent, closing at $4.70 on 1.55 million shares. That followed Tuesday's 25-cent rise to $4.69 on 4.86 million shares, sparked by word that construction of the Florence mine in Arizona is going well. Shareholders of Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG) were not as cheerful -- their stock fell 46 cents to $26.35 on 508,000 shares in silence.

Anthony Moreau's American Eagle Gold Corp. (AE) jumped six cents to 57 cents on 589,000 shares yesterday, its busiest day in a month and second busiest since March. Bright and early today, the company had news -- assays from the first four holes drilled in the South zone of its NAK copper and gold project in central British Columbia. The headline hit returned a 644-metre intercept, starting just below surface, which averaged 0.21 gram of gold and 1.6 grams of silver per tonne, along with 0.21 per cent copper and a faint whiff of molybdenum.
