New York spot gold rose $19.90 Wednesday, closing at $3,356.80. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 18.48 points to 751.85 while the TSX gold index added 4.21 points to 499.64. Many gold miners listed in Canada did well today after taking Canada Day off. Those with a copper kicker did best of all, with Lundin Mining Corp. (LUN) adding 74 cents to $15.06 on 7.41 million shares being typical of those miners. Lundin's sister company, Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG), moved lower, dropping 32 cents to $71.58 on 1.35 million shares.
Not everyone had out their party hats and kazoos today: Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO) fell 49 cents to $18.48 on 1.86 million shares, while Mandalay Resources Corp. (MND) dropped 12 cents to $4.68 on 510,000 shares. Neither had news to account for their declines, nor did Avino Silver & Gold Mines Ltd. (ASM), which took the biggest tumble among the silent miners, falling 29 cents to $4.61 on 2.21 million shares.
