New York spot gold dipped $2.60 Thursday, closing at $3,328.50. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 10.07 points to 728.79 while the TSX gold index added 4.46 points to 502.54. Copper did well today, and so did gold miners with a copper kicker: Capstone Copper Corp. (CS) jumped 58 cents to $8.45 on 9.34 million shares, while First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM) gained $1.68 to $24.15 on 5.38 million shares. On the other hand, Aura Minerals Inc. (ORA) dipped 13 cents to $36.52 on 118,000 shares.
Benoit La Salle's Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) rose 45 cents to $12.55 on 1.2 million shares on word that it has begun drilling at its Zgounder Far East property in Morocco. The news of the 2,250-metre drill program comes accompanied by word that Aya has added ground to the north of Zgounder, expanding its project by nearly 5,000 hectares to 45,000 hectares -- and by new assays offering "high-grade silver" encouragement from the core area at Zgounder.
