New York spot gold rose $1.10 to $3,367.90 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 0.5 point to 710.68 while the TSX gold index added 6.39 points to 509.91. Most gold miners listed in Canada gained ground today. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) rose 33 cents to $21.57 on 4.03 million shares and Newmont Corp. (NGT) added $1.64 to $81.63 on 433,000 shares. Orvana Minerals Corp. (ORV) was among those in retreat, as it dipped four cents to 52 cents on 113,000 shares.

Renaud Adams's Iamgold Corp. (IMG) jumped 56 cents to $10.49 on seven million shares, but it had news pushing it along. The company cheered progress at its Cote mine in Northern Ontario, which on Saturday "reached a major milestone" -- its plant having operated at nameplate capacity of 36,000 tonnes per day on average for over a month. The news was a welcome relief for investors, as Cote has been plagued by discouraging news for years.

No gold flakes at Hercules Metals Corp. as it is not drilling for gold. After re-drilling at the historical Hercules silver mine in 2023, good confirmation on the silver, but it changed its name from Hercules Silver after discovering copper porphyry, that prompted Barrick to invest 25million bucks, leading to a copper staking rush in Idaho. Given the copper discovery, Barrick JV, and continued mineralized step-outs to what could be a series of copper porphyries, it would be reasonable to call it "under-promoted"... It seems CEO Chris Paul is a geo from the "let the drills do the talking" school of promo.
