New York spot gold rose $3.20 to $3,386.40 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 2.54 points to 722.84 and the TSX gold index fell 0.13 point to 507.17. Most gold miners listed in Canada moved little today, but a few managed more energetic treks. Aura Minerals Inc. (ORA) was one: It jumped to a morning high of $39.13 then slumped to a low of $37.54 before ending the day up five cents to $37.86 on 228,000 shares. The company did wrap up its annual meeting yesterday but there was nothing untoward to report.
Ross Beaty and Greg Smith's Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX), $10 earlier this month, reversed its recent slide by adding 16 cents to $8.62 on 4.21 million shares. The company applauded the closing of its merger with Calibre Mining Corp. (CXB). Calibre still trades -- it added five cents to $3 on 8.31 million shares today -- but it is headed for delisting. Equinox has also shuffled its board by dropping three of its nine directors and adding four from Calibre.
