New York spot gold rose $1.60 to $2,045.20 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 0.22 point to 551.34 while the TSX gold index dropped 0.48 point to 275.61. Most Canadian-listed gold miners moved lower today. SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) dipped four cents to $14.09 on 440,000 shares while Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) gained 10 cents to $70.35 on 1.57 million shares.

Northbound today was Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV), which added 42 cents to $26.40 on 2.54 million shares. The gain follows three straight declines earlier this week in which the company fell a cumulative $3.79, including a $2.91 slide yesterday to $25.98 on 3.08 million shares. The Thursday slump followed midday word that Endeavour had "terminated the president and chief executive officer, Sebastien de Montessus" -- the company means fired, not executed -- "for serious misconduct with immediate effect."

The issue, Endeavour said, was an "irregular payment instruction issued ... in relation to an asset disposal undertaken by the company." The company alleges that the payment -- $5.9-million (U.S.) -- was uncovered by its board during a review of Endeavour's past mergers and acquisitions. When Endeavour became aware is unclear, although it describes the discovery as "recent" and leading to a subsequent investigation.
