New York spot gold fell $23.60 to $2,004.50 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 3.49 points to 537.50 while the TSX gold index fell 4.84 points to 276.79. Most Canadian-listed gold miners moved lower today but Ero Copper Corp. (ERO) was not among them. It rose $1.09 to $18.39 on 555,000 shares. Also northbound today was Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV), which added $1.32 to $147.38 on 855,000 shares. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) helped lead the retreat, as it fell 10 cents to $3.08 on 2.39 million shares.

Charles Malette and Patrick Cruickshank's Nine Mile Metals Ltd. (NINE) is promoting the full nine yards out of its latest drill hole at its California Lake volcanogenic massive sulphide project in northeastern New Brunswick. Drilling of this hole began in mid-November with the company's stock meandering along near the six-cent mark. Word that the hole had been started sparked enough interest to double Nine Mile's share price and today, an update on progress kicked the stock two cents higher to 14 cents on 955,000 shares.
