New York spot gold rose $6.30 to $2,025.10 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 0.2 point to 533.97 while the TSX gold index dipped 0.33 point to 282.87. Many Canadian gold miners moved higher today. New Gold Inc. (NGD) led the charge northward today, adding seven cents to $1.92 on 3.64 million. The moves are shrinking in amplitude, but the course remains the same for First Quantum Minerals Inc. (FM). A $30 stock in mid-October, First Quantum was halved by the start of November when Panama began posturing to close the company's Cobre Panama mine. First Quantum lost 52 cents to $10.46 on 5.35 million shares today.
Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) has drilled an 11.6-metre interval grading 42.8 grams of gold per tonne at Keats West on its Queensway project, just west of Gander in Newfoundland. Most of the gold sat in a rich subsection that graded 93.05 grams per tonne across 5.25 metres. There were several other two-digit intervals among the 16 new holes, but they mustered just a gram or two of gold per tonne.
