New York spot gold added $10.60 to $2,002.70 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 2.27 points to 532.33 while the TSX gold index dipped 1.18 point to 272.89. Some Canadian diamond producers moved higher, some drifted lower, but most moved little in limited trading on Black Friday -- the shopping kind thankfully, not the market variety.
Shareholders of First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM) might think otherwise, however as their stock, worth $30 a month ago, shed another 35 cents to $13.31 on 4.52 million shares. (For those sleeping under a rock, First Quantum may lose the right to operate its Cobre Panama gold mine because of governmental acquiescence to (some) popular opinion.)
Among those few managing to trade with a hint of regularity today, Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) logged a two-cent gain to $22.05 on 2.14 million shares. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) also traded well, adding five cents to $7.62 on 2.78 million shares. So did Iamgold Corp. (IMG), which added two cents to $3.26 on 815,000 shares.
