New York spot gold rose another $4.80 to $1,979.10 on Friday, thanks to the wars and rumours of wars plaguing the planet. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 3.08 points to 520.74 while the TSX gold index added 0.62 point to 281.07. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today, so spare a moment of condolences for shareholders of Newmont Corp. (NGT), which fell 94 cents to 53.22 on 641,000 shares. Backers of Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) may be feeling charitable, as their stock rose 18 cents to $14.43 on 275,000 shares today.

Rick Howes's Reunion Gold Corp. (RGD) beavered away after the close yesterday to roll out Thursday news and avoid the stigma. It worked, as Reunion jumped four cents to 44 cents on 3.59 million shares on word it has drilled a 71-metre interval averaging 5.77 grams of gold per tonne from a deep drilling program at Oko West in Guyana.
