New York spot gold rose $24.40 to $1,946.90 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 12.08 points to 525.84 while the TSX gold index added 0.26 point to 280.49. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today, but there were outliers. Ero Copper Corp. (ERO) fell 41 cents to $19.91 on 356,000 shares while West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) added two cents to 60 cents on 2.59 million shares. Neither had news today, but with Ero, investors may have been responding to a gloomier prediction from a National Bank Financial analyst, Shane Nagle.

Collin Kettell and Denis Laviolette's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) was back with more high-grade assays from its Queensway project in north-central Newfoundland. The new results, from 30 new holes testing the Jackpot zone, produced hits of up to 51.93 grams of gold per tonne across 2.85 metres. A second hole managed 31.5 grams per tonne over 2.5 metres and several others had double-digit grades over sub-one-metre intervals.
