New York spot gold added $17.60 to $1,937.20 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 5.43 points to 588.15 while the TSX gold index climbed 3.54 points to 278.10. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher from their Monday closes. There were some bigger gains among the northward drift, including a 34-cent gain by China Gold International Resources Corp. (CGG), which closed at $5.63 on 28,000 shares. SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) was a laggard, as it added just four cents to $20.35 on 243,000 shares.

Neither company had news, but one that did was Shane Williams's West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG). West Red Lake rose five cents to 54 cents on 88,000 shares on word it has drilled a two-metre interval averaging 66.66 grams of gold per tonne at Rowan, in the Red Lake district of Northwestern Ontario. A 0.5-metre subinterval averaged 266.27 grams per tonne, leaving the other 1.5 metres with just 0.12 gram per tonne.
