New York spot gold jumped $18.20 to $1,915.40 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 11.27 points to 593.51 while the TSX gold index added 6.97 points to 271.31. Canadian gold miners moved higher today with bullion. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) had a good day, adding 69 cents to $10.69 on 38,000 shares. So did Iamgold Corp. (IMG), which added 19 cents to $3.14 on 1.3 million shares. Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) was also along for the ride as it added 43 cents to $7.98 on 1.81 million shares.
Today's Newfoundland news came from Jeff Swinoga's Exploits Discovery Corp. (NFLD), which closed unchanged at 10.5 cents on 72,000 shares following word it has drilled a 0.4-metre zone averaging 46.12 grams of gold per tonne at Bullseye, along the Appleton fault in central Newfoundland. That hit came at depth, as did an even deeper 0.45-metre hit that returned a paltry 1.45 grams per tonne.
