New York spot gold slid $26.10 to $1,945.60 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 8.68 points to 611.57 while the TSX gold index dropped 9.61 points to 279.87. Most Canadian gold miners moved lower today. Some fell hard on word of their quarterly reports, while others dropped without assistance of news. One of the latter was Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS), which fell 82 cents to $20.59 on 1.09 million shares. Another was McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX), which fell $1.15 to $10.84 on 66,000 shares.
Among those with news, Patrick Godin's New Gold Inc. (NGD) said after the close Wednesday that it lost $2.6-million (U.S.) in its second quarter. The company says it remains well positioned to hit its 2023 guidance at both the New Afton and Rainy River mines, and Mr. Godin, president and chief executive officer, applauded the "momentum from a strong start to the year" as delivering "another excellent quarter." Analysts seemed to agree, but one would never know this from the market's reaction: New Gold fell 21 cents to $1.43 on 3.52 million shares today.
