The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was a positive 85-81-154 as the TSX Venture Exchange added three points to 923. Chuck Downie's Eagle Plains Resources Ltd. (EPL) added one-half cent to 19 cents on 108,000 shares. The company has intersected "multiple zones of anomalous radioactivity" -- not much of it in other words -- at the B and C zones of its Don Lake project in the northwestern Saskatchewan.

The six new holes yielded a 5.5-metre interval averaging 2,656 cycles per second, while two intervals less than one metre each sent the scintillometer humming at up to 12,473 cycles per second. Late last month, Eagle Plains said its first three holes into the A zone had hit two intervals between 1.1 and 1.9 metres thick, with scintillometer readings just shy of 12,000 cycles per second.

Dr. Michael Gunning's perpetual promotion machine, VR Resources Ltd. (VRR), jumped 4.5 cents to 45 cents on 1.17 million shares Thursday on word it has sold 18.75 million shares at 40 cents, raising $7.5-million to finance follow-up drilling this fall on the New Boston molybdenum-copper-tungsten-silver porphyry project in Nevada. Some cash will also go to marketing and general expenses.
