The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a pleasant 114-52-144 as the TSX Venture Exchange added 23 points to 919. Tin mining Alphamin Resources Corp. (AFM), a 12-center six years ago, continues to sparkle despite the risks of mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It added five cents to $1.40 on 1.15 million shares today.

Frank Giustra and Ian Harris's Copper Giant Resources Corp. (CGNT) added four cents to $1.14 on 2.13 million shares Wednesday on word that it has identified 13 new targets beyond its big Mocoa copper and molybdenum resource and its interpreted extensions. That might seem like overkill, since Mocoa is already credited with 1.12 billion tonnes inferred at 0.31 per cent copper and 0.039 per cent molybdenum -- about 7.6 billion pounds of copper and one billion pounds of molybdenum.

Nevertheless, Mr. Harris, president and chief executive officer -- and certainly Mr. Giustra, a veteran Howe Streeter who founded the group of companies including Copper Giant -- follow the promoter's adage that there is no such thing as too much ore. And so, drilling continues at Mocoa, an effort that will presumably expand to cover some of the new targets.
