The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a weak 67-91-152 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell nine points to 966. Surge Battery Metals Inc. (NILI), silent for the past month, nevertheless was a busy trader again today, dropping 4.5 cents to 87 cents on 2.66 million shares. Vancouver-based Surge -- securing American lithium independence, its website gushes -- is beavering away at its Nevada North lithium project in Nevada.
Daniel Major's Eastport Critical Metals Corp. (EVI) fell two cents to 35 cents on 38,000 shares. The company has translated its soil geochemistry results from the Selebi East project in northeastern Botswana into "multikilometre nickel-copper anomalies" as it hunts "prospective amphibolite host rocks." (Amphibole is a type of silicate minerals -- metamorphic, if you must know -- that the company favours on its quest for nickel in the area. The old Selebi mine, recall, produced 40.5 million tonnes of amphibolite ore grading 0.64 per cent nickel and 0.9 per cent copper from 1980 until 2016.)
