The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score was a mediocre 84-74-152 on Wednesday as the TSX Venture Exchange gained nine points to 975 Alphamin Resources Corp. (AFM) settled down today, adding two cents to $1.52 on 3.06 million shares. You would never know it today, but Alphamin -- $1.68 on Monday -- crashed to $1.23 in intraday trading Tuesday, tripping a market circuit breaker. "Heavy overbought momentum and short-term profit-taking," puffed the pundits -- after the fact, of course. The five-minute reset managed to stabilize Alphamin's stock.

Karem Usenmez's Volta Metals Ltd. (VLTA), which touted new gallium assays from the Springer project in Northern Ontario on Monday, is now acquiring three contiguous claims immediately to the east. That, the company enthuses, ties together every claim of the project into a single, wholly owned block. The new ground is underexplored, Volta says -- entirely undrilled and unexplored in its words -- despite it sitting directly along the eastward extension of the existing Springer deposit.
