The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was a so-so 87 84-139 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell seven points to 955. Murray Nye's North American Niobium and Critical Minerals Corp. (NIOB) rose three cents to 60 cents on 10,000 shares on word of progress with its drilling program on the Bardy property in the La Tuque region of Quebec.

The company has drilled an eight-metre interval of syenitic pegmatite, a hit that includes a 0.2-metre zone in which allanite was identified in the core. Allanite is a rare-earth-bearing silicate typically associated with neodymium and praseodymium, the company enthuses, leaving lay investors to figure out the potential significance of syenitic pegmatite. (Those that make the effort to do so will learn that this form of pegmatite contains little quartz but plenty of feldspar and -- here is the payoff pitch -- it is a known source of niobium and rare earth elements.)

This latest drill hole "is exactly what we wanted from the first drill program at Bardy," beamed Mr. Nye, chief executive officer. "An eight-metre syenitic pegmatite carrying visible rare earth mineralization, including a zone of allanite identified in the core," he then interjected, just in case you were unaware of exactly what they wanted. Assays will confirm what is in the rock, Mr. Nye concluded, but in the meantime, "Bardy is showing the same pegmatite-hosted rare earth elements potential we are advancing across our La Tuque district ground."
