The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was a ho-hum 83-98-129 as the TSX Venture Exchange lost four points to 973. Eric Desaulniers's Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc. (NOU), fresh off a groundbreaking ceremony at its Matawinie graphite project in Quebec, lost nine cents to $2.68 on 2.27 million shares today. Mr. Desaulniers, president and chief executive officer, first paid homage to politicians galore, and then cheered the "culmination of years of dedication and perseverance" by his employees.

Adrian Smith's First Atlantic Nickel Corp. (FAN) jumped 11 cents to 88 cents on four million shares Thursday on word that electron microprobe analysis of awaruite in the RPM zone of its Pipestone XL project averaged 77.6 per cent nickel and 1.69 per cent cobalt. Awaruite, the company cheers, quoting the U.S. Geological Survey, is much easier to concentrate than pentlandite.
