The critical and specialty minerals box score for Tuesday was an upbeat 102-69-139 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose 17 points to 1,040. Mario Pezzente's Germanium Mining Corp. (GMC) rose one-half cent to 33 cents on 112,000 shares on word that it has "assembled and secured its exploration team" for a fully financed program at its Lac Du Km 35 germanium project, near Chibougamau in Quebec.

The company will start preliminary work in May, with outcrop mapping and sampling through the summer, and drill permitting in the fall. Yes, drilling is planned and assaying is anticipated -- it just does not say when. The plan, or at least the hope, is that the work will double the germanium grade of the Laganiere showing to 0.04 per cent across at least 10 metres.

Today's diamond exploration coming-of-age story centres on Claudia Tornquist's Kodiak Copper Corp. (KDK) and its advanced Kahuna kimberlite dike project near Rankin inlet in Nunavut. If you are a Kodiak shareholder and have not heard of Kahuna, no surprise -- Kodiak has not considered it newsworthy in eight years and not worth boilerplate mention in the past five. (Kahuna remains on perpetual care and maintenance and you can learn its history if you do enough mouse clicking on Kodiak's website to risk carpal tunnel syndrome.)
