The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a dreadful 38-153-119 as the TSX Venture Exchange slumped 32 points to 951. Scott Eldridge's Ultra Lithium Corp. (ULTH) added 2.5 cents to 22 cents on 227,000 shares Thursday, then missed the Friday slide thanks to a halt called so the company could reveal its plan to acquire Swedish Minerals AB for 25 million shares priced at 20 cents apiece. Swedish Minerals owns several uranium projects in Sweden that Ultra hopes to pursue, along with one in Finland.

Hope is the key word: Sweden still has a moratorium on uranium mining within its borders. Yes, the government is looking to lift that moratorium, imposed in 2018, at the end of this year, but the needed legislation has yet to pass. Much has changed since 2018 -- not the least being Sweden's entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the reasons why -- so the country is looking for domestic energy sources, and it now sees uranium as the lesser evil in its fight against climate change.
