The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was an acceptable 80-113-117 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell 20 points to 1,007. Assays are still pending, but investors embraced word on Wednesday that Mike Taylor's Slam Exploration Ltd. (SXL) has drilled significant mineralized core intervals at its Goodwin copper, nickel and cobalt project in northeastern New Brunswick. The news sent Slam up four cents to 13.5 cents on 1.28 million shares yesterday and it held most of the gain today, slipping one-half cent to 13 cents on 389,000 shares.
The hits in the four new holes completed at Goodwin included intercepts of 81 metres and 74 metres in the Farquharson zone, the latter encounter coming from an area 40 metres east of where a hole last year had produced assay encouragement. As well, a hole into the Granges zone produced narrower, but near-surface intercepts, near where a hole last year had produced nearly 65 metres of rock grading 0.64 per cent nickel, 0.73 per cent copper and 0.05 per cent cobalt.
