The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a dreary 57-76-177 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell seven points to 646. Jason Jessup's Magna Mining Inc. (NICU) lost four cents to $1.40 on 269,000 shares Wednesday on word it has intercepted high-grade copper, nickel and platinum group elements at its Levack and McCreedy West projects, northwest of Sudbury in Northern Ontario.
The headline hit, if you are wowed by grades, came from the Keel zone at Levack, where a two-metre interval returned 24 per cent copper and 1.2 per cent nickel, along with 6.7 grams of platinum and palladium per tonne. A second hole at Levack also did well, with 14.5 per cent copper and 1.0 per cent nickel plus 8.4 grams of platinum and palladium per tonne across 1.9 metres.
On the other hand, if longer intercepts catch your eye, the top result from McCreedy West averaged 6.8 per cent copper and 0.2 per cent nickel plus 7.1 grams of platinum group elements per tonne over 11.1 metres. Another hit at McCreedy West also did well, with 3.5 per cent copper, 0.5 per cent nickel and 14.6 grams of platinum and palladium per tonne over 25.6 metres.
