The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a mediocre 66-71-173 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose one point to 654. There is an adage that says the real money in the resource sector is made by the drillers, not the companies owning the projects being drilled. Unfortunately, times have been so tough across much of the junior resource sector that even the companies hired to run and develop exploration drilling programs have been struggling.
Take Michel Fontaine's Windfall Geotek Inc. (WIN) for instance. The company's roots go back two decades to a division of Diagnos Inc. (ADK: $0.245) where Mr. Fontaine was beavering away on his computer-aided resource detection (CARDS) system. Diagnos rounded up plenty of customers for the system -- sufficiently so that Mr. Fontaine took CARDS public on its own using a failed diamond explorer, Majescor Resources Inc. Majescor acquired Diagnos's mining division and rebranded itself as Albert Mining Inc.
