The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a weak 65-96-145 as the TSX Venture Exchange added two points to 549. Gregory Bowes and Hugues Jacquemin's Northern Graphite Corp. (NGC) lost one-half cent to 18.5 cents on 135,000 shares.

Northern Graphite has appointed Albert Zapanta, a retired United States Army major general, to be a senior adviser to its board. Mr. Jacquemin, chief executive officer, applauds his new consigliere for his "vast experience in the public and private sectors," which will help as Northern Graphite "seeks its place as a critical supplier to North America's energy transition and [electric vehicle] revolution."

Mr. Zapanta is no spring chicken, as his military career began in the early days of the Vietnam War, but he remains active on the corporate and bureaucratic fronts. In addition to his new role with Northern Graphite, Mr. Zapanta is president and CEO of the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce. And so, the former airborne commander hit the ground running -- or at least advising -- as he cheered Northern as having a "unique position to help drive the United States' energy transition ambitions." Accordingly, he looks forward to providing advice as the company grows into a major supplier of graphite, which has been declared a critical mineral by the United States government.
