The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Monday was a weak 67-99-144 as the TSX Venture Exchange lost one point to 551. Ewan Mason and George Read's Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) closed unchanged at 7.5 cents on 191,000 shares. The company is still awaiting the closing of its separation agreement with Rio Tinto Exploration Corp. (RTEC), its former co-venturer on the Fort a la Corne diamond project in Saskatchewan, but the good news is that some work is already under way.

The closing is imminent, cheers Mr. Mason, Star's chairman and interim chief executive officer, who adds that the process is "basically complete" with just some paperwork to process. (That sound you hear is not the groaning frozen trees swaying as wintry winds sweep the Fort a la Corne forest -- it is the reaction of investors who endured several months of lawyerly crossings of t's and dottings of I's as negotiations between Star Diamond and RTEC dragged on through most of last year.)
