The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a weak 71-93-146 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell one point to 527. The 21-month slide in rough diamond prices that ended a 21-month price surge following the COVID-19 panic of 2020 has taken its toll on diamond miners. Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD), which traded above $7 seven years ago just as mining got under way at its 49-per-cent-owned Gahcho Kue mine in the Northwest Territories, recently bounced off a dismal low of 19.5 cents. It lost one-half cent to 23.5 cents on 193,000 shares today.

Naturally, diamond explorers are also struggling -- especially those starving for good news. The ides of November came and went without word of a formal separation agreement between Ewan Mason's Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) and Rio Tinto Exploration Canada Inc. (RTEC). Mr. Mason, the company's chief executive officer since the start of the year, had best be wary of his disgruntled shareholders, who are tiring of the delays attributed months ago to sorting out minor details.
