The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Tuesday was a weak 69-99-142 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell two points to 529. Dr. William Lamb and Adam Lundin's Lucara Diamond Corp. (LUC) lost one-half cent to 35.5 cents on 93,000 shares. Lucara has had a tough year and Dr. Lamb, the company's once-deposed-but-recently-reinstated president and chief executive officer, is undoubtedly well aware it is much more Mr. Lundin's company than it is his own.

And so, investors will watch closely as Lucara holds its last rough diamond tender of the year through Antwerp-based Bonas Group late this month. (Bonas operates regular auctions for several diamond miners, including Canada-based Stornoway Diamond Corp. and Mountain Province Diamonds Inc.(MPVD: $0.24).)

Most miners sell their rough at regular auctions, held at five-week intervals, cycling between two or three events per quarter, but Lucara holds just one tender per quarter. This year, Lucara sold its lesser gems at Antwerp auctions in March, May and August. In those three sales, it sold 251,571 carats of smaller and lower-quality diamonds, reserving several thousand carats of big and beautiful gems for its alternate sales platforms.
