The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a weak 61-100-149 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell two points to 516. Dermot Desmond's beleaguered diamond miner, Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) imploded further this week, dropping another two cents to 22.5 cents on 2.1 million shares today. Today's intraday low of 19.5 cents is a record low, well below the 25 cents reached in spring of 2020 when the company could not sell any of its diamond. It can sell production today -- just not for the prices it needs.

Robin Dunbar's Grid Metals Corp. (GRDM) deemed the scoping study it received yesterday worthy of a brief stock halt that delayed the open by 30 minutes. Investors deemed the news worthy of a yawn, as Grid staggered upward a single cent -- a cent that came late -- to an 11.5-cent close on 261,000 shares. The study contemplates the reconfiguration of the True North gold mill at Bissett in southeastern Manitoba, so it can handle rock from Grid's Donner Lake lithium deposit, 85 kilometres to the southeast by road.
