The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a weak 67-101-142 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell five points to 585. Quebec Nickel Corp. (QNI) was a busy trader, dropping one-half cent to 6.5 cents on 3.74 million shares today.

Adam Lundin and Eira Thomas's Lucara Diamond Corp. (LUC) fell 1.5 cents to 40.5 cents on 414,000 shares. Lucara went through the change for the second time in five years with word that Ms. Thomas, one of the company's three founders, has been replaced as president and chief executive officer. Paul Conibear, the company's chairman, offered the usual long-winded puffery as a send-off, but he did not say that Ms. Thomas was resigning for greener pastures, or if she was calling it a career.

Five years ago, when Lucara made "certain changes in management," it deemed the abrupt departure of former president and CEO, Dr. William Lamb, as a retirement. That seemed unlikely for a fellow in his late 40s, and indeed, Dr. Lamb reappeared as lead director of Bluestone Resources Inc. (BSR: $0.30) -- (not so) coincidentally another company associated with the Lundin family of mining promoters. As with Ms. Thomas's departure, Lucara's then chairman, Lukas Lundin, heaped platitudes upon praise, with Dr. Lamb paying similar lip service in return.
